A Message from the FSAE Board of Directors

A Message from the FSAE Board of Directors:

The recent death of George Floyd has sparked a renewed and intense call for social justice. It is our hope that this movement is loud and strong enough to compel government and institutional leaders to make substantive changes to policies and practices. Changes that will ensure all individuals are treated with dignity and respect, especially those in black communities who have suffered fundamental inequalities for far too long. Although a good starting point, systemic change begins with us, in our own hearts. It is nurtured in our families and cultivated in our organizations, our communities, and our country.

As an association community we cannot sit idly by and hope for social justice. FSAE’s mission is to Connect, Learn and Lead. It is our call to action. FSAE’s commitment to diversity and inclusion at every level of our organization was initiated by crafting and adopting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies, by establishing a standing DEI Committee, and by creating resources to help engrain DEIinto FSAE’s culture. However, even with the existing DEI policies in place, FSAE will continue to seek more understanding, compassion and open exchange of ideas. We will persist in our mission to connect and learn.

Today, FSAE has an opportunity to take a leadership role to fight for social justice by elevating our DEI policies and practices to the broader community. FSAE members represent industries and professions as diverse as its people, so the impact of both our words and actions is far reaching. It is our obligation to communicate the necessity and importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion to all communities.

Let us acknowledge, embrace, and celebrate our differences as we stand together, by doing so, we can become better people, organizations, and role models for social justice for all. It is time to lead and actively support the civil rights movement of our time.
