11:00 am - 12:15 pm  Community Over Competition: Women’s Relationships in the Workplace
Tina VSpeaker: Tina Rae VanSteenbergen

In almost every workplace, women have been taught to compete with one another first. She isn’t your friend, your community member, or even your colleague – she’s your competition, your rival, your barrier to success. The truth is, from a young age, society has trained us to build walls between ourselves and other women. It’s a simple (and justifiable) defense mechanism – and – study after study shows that women connecting meaningfully in the workplace is better. Better for the company, for the employees, for the industry, and for each of us as women. So let's start tearing down the walls that separate us. With a healthy commitment to bucking societal expectations and prioritizing genuine connection, we can stop creating competitions and start building community.
