The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has recently passed two rulings that impact the association space: Business Impersonation / Fraud and Banning Non-Compete Agreements.

Business Impersonation / Fraud
The FTC Rule on Impersonation to combat scams was passed earlier this spring and went into effect April 1. Impersonation includes scammers selling fake membership lists or hotel room blocks. The FTC also shared new data on the most common ways consumers are targeted by these treacherous scams. Combined, reported losses to these impersonation scams topped $1.1 billion for the year, more than three times what consumers reported in 2020. Additionally, the ruling includes a method to report fraud, scams and bad business acts: ReportFraud.ftc.gov

The FSAE Board of Directors announces Hester Ndoja, CAE as the Interim President/CEO after the recent passing of our beloved leader Frank Rudd on September 12, 2023.

Hester joined the FSAE staff in 2008 and was promoted to Vice President in 2015. She is the staff liaison for the Membership and Sponsorship Committees, and manages the FSAE Foundation initiatives. Hester’s appointment comes with the resounding recommendation of the FSAE leadership and staff.

FSAE is seeking speakers for all 2024 events. We want to ensure association executives are prepared to bring organizations into the next era through education, interactive discussions and audience engagement.

FSAE presented its most prestigious Leadership Awards at its recent Annual Conference held at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point in Bonita Springs. These awards recognize individuals for their leadership, dedication, and professionalism both within FSAE as well as their own organizations.

The award winners for 2023 are:

FSAE has joined 165+ organizations in signing on to ASAE's Tomorrow's Workforce Coalition, to help pass the Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow's Workforce Act (HR 1477 / S 722), bipartisan legislation to expand qualified expenses under 529 savings plans to include postsecondary training and credentialing programs, such as licenses and nongovernmental certifications. It would also provide valuable tax-advantaged resources for students and workers-with or without a college degree-who pursue career growth, mid-career changes or career pathways that diverge from a typical academic route.

Which means that associations' credentialing programs can become more accessible and affordable to young adults and job seekers.
